Alder (Clear)

Red Alder, clear alder, solid wood, cabinet doors, soft wood

Colour:

Reddish brown


Grain:

Straight, even textured


Type:

Soft wood


Grading:

   Paint Grade - Same as standard grade.  Not usually used for paint.

   Standard Grade - Alder is a very uniform colour so this will be just that.

   Superior Grade - Probably not necessary for this wood but superior will be picked to be more uniform and less mineral marks.

Alder (Knotty)

Knotty Rustic Red Alder, solid wood, soft wood, cabinet doors

Colour:

Reddish brown with dark knots


Grain:

Irregular with lots of natural characteristics


Type:

Soft wood


Grading:

  Paint Grade - Same as standard grade.  Not usually used for paint but works as a rustic rub through.

  Standard Grade - Pretty uniform colour with lots of large dark knots.  The knots will have cracks but they are stable.  This is a great wood for a rustic look.

  Superior Grade - Probably not necessary for this wood but superior will be picked to be more uniform and with have even more knots.

Birch

Birch wood, yellow birch, solid wood, cabinet doors, kitchen

Colour:

Creamy yellow to pale brown


Grain:

Closed 


Type:

Hard wood


Grading:

   Paint Grade - Not sorted for colour, will have lots of brown heart wood mixed with the light sap wood.may include minor wood fill on stable defects on the face of the door.

   Standard Grade - This grade is ideal for staining with medium to dark stains. it will include some minor black mineral streaks and this grade is not sorted for perfect colour.  No wood fill on the front of the doors. May contain up to 25% brown heart wood on the face of the door.

   Superior Grade - This grade is ideal for jobs where a very uniform colour and reduced black mineral streaks are desired. No brown heart wood on the face. Usually for jobs with a clear finish.

Cherry

Black Cherry, red, hard wood, solid wood, cabinet doors, kitchen,

Colour:

Reddish (heartwood), White (sapwood)


Grain:

Closed and uniform with occasional pin knots and gum


Type:

Hard wood


Grading:

    Paint Grade - Lots of Sapwood and black mineral streaks.  Not sorted for colour.  May include minor wood fill on stable defects.

    Standard Grade - This grade is ideal for staining with medium to dark stains. it will include some minor black mineral streaks and this grade is not sorted for perfect colour.  It may include up to 20% sapwood.  No wood fill on the front of the doors.

    Superior Grade - This grade is ideal for jobs where a very uniform colour and reduced black mineral streaks are desired. Usually for jobs with a clear finish.

Hard Maple

Hard Maple, hard wood, solid wood, c

Colour:

White Beige to pale brown


Grain:

Closed and usually straight 


Type:

Hard wood


Grading:

    Paint Grade - May include black mineral streaks and lots of colour variation.  No cracks but may include very minor wood fill on stable defects.

    Standard Grade - This grade is ideal for staining with medium to dark stains. it will include some minor black mineral streaks and this grade is not sorted for perfect colour.  No wood fill on the front of the doors.

    Superior Grade - This grade is ideal for jobs where a very uniform colour and reduced black mineral streaks are desired. Usually for jobs with a clear finish.

Red Oak

Red Oak Wood, cabinet doors, solid wood, kitchen, kitchens

Colour:

Pale pink to reddish brown


Grain:

Open


Type:

Hard wood


Grading:

   Paint Grade - Lots of colour variations with no sorting of sap wood to heart wood.  May contain lots of black mineral streaks.  Great for the paint grade order where you want to see the texture of the grain through the paint.

   Standard Grade - This grade is ideal for staining with medium to dark stains. it will include some minor black mineral streaks and this grade is not sorted for perfect colour.  It may include up to 20% sap on the face of the door.

   Superior Grade - This grade is ideal for jobs where a very uniform colour and no sap on the face of the door is desired. Usually for jobs with a clear or light coloured stain finish.

Walnut

Black Walnut, solid wood, cabinet doors, kitchen, kitchens, dark wood.

Colour:

Dark brown to purplish black, grayish sapwood


Grain:

Closed with a minor grain texture


Type:

Hard wood


Grading:

    Paint Grade - believe it or not, some people do paint walnut.  For this you will see colours all over the place and some wood fill on the front.  We don't recommend painting such a beautiful wood but we get it for a rub through finish.

    Standard Grade - We allow up to 25% sap on the face of your doors with this grade.  It's ideal for when you want the heart and sap look or if you are putting a darker stain on the project.

    Superior Grade - This grade is ideal for jobs where a very uniform dark colour is desired. Usually for jobs with a clear finish.  The picture best represents our superior grade.

Wormy Maple

Wormy Maple, Rustic, Cabinet Doors, kitchens, solid wood

Colour:

Not selected for colour, Wide range of slightly reddish ivory to darker shades.


Grain:

Closed with lots of natural characteristics like mineral streaks, worm holes, etc.


Type:

Soft wood


Grading:

   Paint Grade - The same as standard grade but with a possibility of wood fill on the face on stable defects.

   Standard Grade - Lots of colour variation and worm holes.  Not selected for colour but that is the beauty of this wood.

   Superior Grade - Not really necessary for this wood but superior will be picked for even more worm holes and colour variation.
